SAN ANTONIO STATE

Since 1873 this property has been kept by the same family organization, this has lasted through several generations.

Among the attractions, you can experience a hiking tour while you appreciate several steles and archaeological ruins.

You can also learn to dye fabric with natural materials, make your own jewelry or camp on the state grounds.

 

ANTIQUE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND PROFESSIONS JÓSE MARIANO MÉNDEZ

The historical value of this archaeological site encloses a lot of the history of this country. The building was constructed in 1909 and it’s known to be the first school in the town of Santa Ana.

What is left of the structure is open for visitors and tourists, there are plans for the complete restoration of the site, with an investment estimated in 1,000.00 Euros. It will take approximately 2 years.

It is also speculated that in this historical building was signed the foundation contract for the Deportivo FAS, one of the most important teams in Santa Ana.

 

CASA BLANCA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

Casa Blanca was the center of an important Mayan Route in the preclasic period (between 200 b.C. y 250 a.C.).

This site also has given evidence of human activity that dates back to almost 5,000 years. The government bought the land of the site in 1977. After several works of restoration in the infrastructure, it was inaugurated as a national park in august 22 of 2002.

One of the main discoveries of this site is roofed, and visitors can appreciate different natural fenomenons such as the white ashes that once covered this city after the Ilopango Eruption (V century a.C.).

JEWEL OF CEREN (JOYA DE CERÉN)

The circumstances of a volcanic event caused a noticeable preservation in this area where the site is located. The artefacts of the former inhabitants stayed in their original positions where there were used and kept.

Jewel of Ceren is traditionally known as the “American Pompey” because of the similarities with the volcanic eruptions that ended life in both cities. The UNESCO declared this site as Human Patrimony in 1993.

Thanks to this fenomenon the utensils, grains and other equipment stay in pristine condition. Even after over 1,000 years.

 

SAN ADRES ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

This location is one of the prehispanic centers of the mayan culture in El Salvador. It was also a main city for the Mayan civilization from 600 al 900 a.C. considered to be the peak of this era.

The visitors can watch extremely well conserved structures and take a tour to get to know more about the history of the city and the cultural customs.

The Archaelogical site Jewel of Ceren is located at a distance of 5 kms, so you can visit both destinations on the same day.
